What Brand Are You? Do you think Branding is Important?
While in Washington DC for NAR Midyear, I attended a session called, Real You Incorporated. The speaker, Kaira Sturdivant Rouda, author of "Real You Incorporated; 8 Essentials for Women Entrepreneurs" was one of, if not THE most energetic speakers I have ever seen. She explained how important is it to "Brand" yourself in business and stick with it...along with the fact that in order to Brand yourself, you MUST be yourself!!! It makes sense to me, although I have never really had a "Brand", I always try to just be myself. One of the ideas she suggested during the session was to ask everyone you know to describe you in one word. Take your list of words and find the most common word...That is the word that describes you best! People seemed to have a really hard time describing me in one word, but in the end I came up with "Kid At Heart" (Okay, so that's 3 words...I Tried). And I am a kid at heart, but how the heck do I market with that? How do I make that "My Brand"
One of the other suggestions she gave us was to create a "Brand Board". Every time you see a picture that you like, add it to your brand board. I created a live version on a bulletin board in my office and then recreated it on my computer when it was complete. You are then supposed to find the common theme, color, etc. to help you create your brand. Again, I think I can best be described as a "Kid At Heart". My most common colors were green and pink (funny, I hate pink). But, How do I use that to Market myself?
HMMMMM? I put it all aside for a couple of months, and just thought of it yesterday as I found a copy of "Real You, Inc." in my office. I revisited my brand board and this time, the first thing that popped in my mind was that I enjoy the simple things in life...much like a kid! Ferris Wheels, frogs, clouds, birdhouses, chocolate chip cookies, dancing in the rain, strawberries, and the beauty of nature. Okay, so now I am a kid at heart that enjoys the simple things in life. I have a little more to go on now. According to Kiara's Session that I attended, once you find your brand, use it everywhere...business cards, website, blog, etc. My marketing goal for the month for January is to create my brand and utilize it. And also, to read the book again!
