This January the Grand Old Lady is getting a million dollar facelift, for her 100th Birthday celebration January 20, 2008. The Tea Lobby and Ballroom will be redone, the 3500 sq.ft. tea lobby oak floors are already being removed and then replaced with New oak flooring, New drapes and upholstery which will bring the coast of the Tea room to $500,000. New carpet, wall coverings and paint as part of the Ballroom makeover. The renovations started this week tearing up the century old tea room floor that has been walked on by Kings, Queens, Prime Ministers, Premiers, and esteemed guests such as "Rudyard Kipling, Shirley Temple, Spencer Tracy, Rita Hayworth, the King and Queen of Siam, Bob Hope, John Travolta, Barbra Streisand, Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn, and Kurt Russell" with untold amounts Empress Tea served and spilled over the last 100 years!

This is only one of the mainly celebrations this year in BC, as our Province is also celebrating her 150Th Birthday this year. Great year to come and visit Victoria and British Columbia. Plus you get to have Tea with a Fellow AR member in the Real Rain!

When I read the headline, I thought the post is about NAR's centennial. The Empress Hotel was a pleasant surprise. I've never spent the night there, but I've had high tea. What a splendid place.
