Lee Fuge, the chair of FoodRoots Distributor's Co-operative, the group that runs the pocket markets Says"Our region is unique because we have such a fantastic agricultural land base and our climate is so conducive to long-season growing that we are really blessed," and "We have all the elements that should make us one of the most food secure areas in the world."
The Captial Regions open-air markets provide another way to get local food to consumers.
"If someone is exposed to this concept even once a month and it makes them think about where their food is coming from, it's a success. The chances are that eventually, they'll go to their local grocery store and ask where the produce there is coming from and create more of a demand at all levels," Fuge said.
Here are some websites that detail further open-air markets, as well as farmstand markets throughout the region.

Hi Fred, what a wonderful post about the markets and about the efforts to support the local economy. Our hometown of Rockledge, Florida added a Farmer's Market this year once a week and it has been a success. That doesn't compare to your sixteen though, that's awesome! The only problem is now its late and I'm hungry now. Well, at least I want salad! Take care.
Hi Denise...You are up Late and Hungry too, Best to go to bed and get up early and have a big breakfast. Well That what my Mum used to tell me, like most of us I never always listened. :O)
The Moss Street Market is a very Popular Farmers Market in the Fairfield District of Victoria where I sell Homes.
Cheers, be sure to support you local Farmer's Market.
Have a Great Day!
Hey Fred,
I know this post was written a while back but it's timely for me. I'm so happy to read about the markets in Victoria... I'm going to post the same for my area. I love these markets and I appreciate the fact that they're on a growth curve.
You're directory is going to be useful to my son. He's going to be starting his CF career with the Navy and will be working in Victoria.
Let's all continue to support our local markets.
Hi Sergio...thanks for dropping by. Be sure to post your open air markets under Localism for your area.
Cheers
